Toshiya Muranaka

Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University
He received his M.S. degree from the Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyoto University in 1985 (PhD, Kyoto University).
He worked for Sumitomo Chemical Company, Team Leader of RIKEN Plant Science Center, and Professor of Kihara Institute for Biological Research, Yokohama City University before taking his current position in 2010. He specializes in plant biotechnology. He contributes to the SDGs through effective utilization of plant genetic resources. Specifically, he is conducting research and development on potatoes with reduced toxicity by genome editing, and research and development on the sustainable production of components of licorice, an important medicinal plant, by yeast."
