After graduating from Keio University, Wataru Yamaki joined Studio Ousia where he engaged in the development of projects involving natural language processing using machine learning. He founded Kanmu in 2011. In 2016, He has started "Vandlecard", which is a reloadable Visa prepaid card. In 2019, he was appointed to the board of director of the Fintech Association of Japan.
